Having been without shoe polish in some strange places when I ran across this on WIKIHOWS there was an immediate connection. Everywhere on earth that I have been there is a banana. There is not always shoe polish. Each morning my breakfast fare is an apple and a banana. The skin is always left.
First peel the banana. You can eat it if you like. The potassium in the banana is the same as is in shoe polish. Sure, this sounds crazy, but if you have ever been in a jam for a quick shine this will work. I tried it.
Rub the inner lining of the banana all over the shoes. It even cleans stubborn grime and dirt!
Go on. Try it yourself. My father drilled into my brain the need for polished shoes. Until this day I cannot walk out the door without looking down and seeing the condition of my shoes. Even work boots in our life were shined.
Let it dry. Then buff it out as normal. The shine will come up. Now my friend Weldon Renfro, who owns the Downtown Shoe Shine in Houston would disagree but it will get you a passing grade in 'shoe glance' department!
All done! Ready to meet the day! Okay, a bit hokey but then again desperation is the mother of invention! Have a wonderful day and with clean shoes!
